Spiral Grit Classifier | Sand and Grit Separator for Wastewater Treatment

Short Description:

The Grit Classifier, also known as a grit screw, spiral sand classifier, or grit separator, is widely used in wastewater treatment plants—especially at the headworks (the front end of the plant). Its main function is to separate grit from organic matter and water.

Efficient grit removal at the headworks significantly reduces wear on pumps and other mechanical equipment upstream. It also prevents pipeline clogging and maintains the effective volume of treatment basins.

A typical grit classifier features a hopper mounted above an inclined screw conveyor. To handle the abrasive nature of the application, the unit is usually constructed with a stainless steel housing and a high-strength, wear-resistant screw.
